The fastest growing religion in the world is Islam. Since it was first practiced in the Middle East, the Islamic culture and traditional beliefs have spread all over the world. In the world today, Muslims still hold on to their Islamic traditions and culture. There is tension between different generations on culture but that has not altered the transfer of traditional Islamic practices and beliefs to the current generation. Among those beliefs is Muslim matchmaking.

Public image of Muslims around the globe has been tainted due to terrorism. Most Muslims are finding it hard to practice their religion especially in Christian dominant countries. Terrorism is not part of Islam as most people assume. The religion is much bigger than some rogue Muslims who think they can link it to terrorism.

In the current changing world, there is a struggle between traditional cultural practices and pop culture but Islam has been able to survive. A Muslim has four core dimensions which they are to address. The four core dimensions are faith, education, transmission and understanding. That is why they have to be loyal and keep their traditional Islamic sources as reference.

In respect to Muslims social institutions such as family and marriage has been dominated by feminist critique. Which has led to apparent unequal role of women in the Muslim society. Though it keeps on changing and evolving due to the westernization culture. In the Islamic law and beliefs, the process of marriage involves finding a spouse for women.

Due to technology, most Muslim youngsters are distancing themselves from this practice making it not to be effective. The youth are disregarding a very important Islamic tradition which can only be understood when one focuses on what the Muslim identity is. A Muslim identity can only be viewed in terms of personal experience and association with different key elements.

One of the most important events in life is marriage and it means a lot which makes a Muslim is no exception. Observing this is important as it shows commitment to their faith. Preparation for marriage is guided by several guidelines. Codes of conduct in terms of interaction and etiquette come into play for men and women who are ready for marriage. Rules guiding those who are already married also exist and have to be observed. Flirting as well as contact between married women and men is prohibited.

A special person is appointed to ensure that these laws are followed. Generally Muslims consider the woman not related to the man until the marriage is done. Dating in Islam is not allowed or encouraged but with modern technology, most Muslim women end up meeting with their future husbands online. Online dating websites are slowly threatening this traditional practice making it the major challenge to Islamic culture.

Upholding the laws on marriage is facing one major setback. This challenge is presented by technology but it also has its good sides. Searching partners is easier as it can be done online. This is better in comparison to traditional method. Traditionally pictures of potential husbands would be presented to the girl who had to pick one. With the internet they get to interact with potential husbands online and get to understanding them prior to committing.
