Factors To Look When Choosing A Teal Sapphire

By Kathleen Walker

For those who are looking at buying sapphire stones for their engagement rings, then there are a few things to look out for when considering the value. One of the best types of sapphires to consider buying would be the teal sapphire since it is a very simple stone that has a very classy look that will look great with any outfit. So if one would want to purchase this stone, then check out these factors.

First off, one has to pay close attention to the color. The best way to do that would be to pit the stone under a good light such as a fluorescent lamp probably a foot away. If the deep blue and green color would radiate under the light clearly, then it is most likely an authentic stone.

After one has judged the deep color of the jewel, the next thing to do is to put it under natural sunlight. Depending on the light that the jewel is put under, there would be subtle shades of other colors such as purple if it is a really rare or valuable stone. The different color would be a little faint with the blue green shade more prominent.

The second criteria would be clarity of the stone or the clearness if the inside. If one sees that there are some weird crystals, silky lines, or bubbles when under the lens, then the jewel may have less value. If one has a jewel eye, then it is possible to see all these things even without a lens but one would usually need a lens.

Next, one has to determine the cut of the stone to see if it is symmetrical. If it happens to be of a circular or oval shape, then one has to see if the stone is symmetrical with a smooth surface. The same thing goes with square or rectangle shaped stones wherein one has to observe the symmetry of the shape.

Along with this, one must also check out for the large gaps or large windows in the center of the stone. If one sees something like this, then it means the jewel was cut in order to simply retain the weight but has scrimped on overall beauty. So if there is no window or no gap in the center, then it is a better and more valuable purchase.

Finally, one has to check the carat weight of a stone. Now, a good weight for most stones would reach somewhere in one carat to two carats depending on the jewel. If one can find something with a higher carat weight, then it will be rarer. At the same time, it will also be much more expensive to buy.

If one would want to look for this kind of jewel, use these factors as a guide. These factors will allow one to know the value and the rarity of the jewel. It allows one to know how valuable and expensive the jewel is.
