What You Should Know About Halal Dating Customs

By Cynthia Lewis

When two people meet and become interested in each other, they can decide to start a romantic relation that will mature in to courtship and finally marriage. People from different cultures also meet and start a relationship so long as they agree on certain things. However, there are some cultures that do not allow such interrelationships. This is because they have their strong customs that cannot be easily broken. These cultures have rules that people should follow if they are to date each other. Have a look at some of the Halal dating rules.

Falling in love is normal and love does not discriminate. If you start developing special feelings for someone, it can be risky to tell them as you do not know whether you will be accepted or rejected. Therefore, if you have such feelings, the right way to make it a rightful relationship is through marriage. However, if you are not yet ready for marriage, you have to fast and pray to control the lust.

Doing the right Taaruf is also a rule that should be followed. This is the opposite of most customs who encourage people to date before marriage. Taaruf requires people to get married first then date after marriage. The reason behind this is that people can get hurt and ruin relationships when they start a relationship before marriage. To avoid heartbreaks, you should get married then start your courtship.

If you wish to get married but lack the right person to marry, the right thing to do is ask for people to help you. Then, you draft a proposal in which you will include your biography. The people who are willing to help you will give this draft to a girl they like. The girl is also supposed to do the same.

In case the proposal is accepted, you should meet the girl but not alone. You have to meet her with her family. If you want to know anything important about the girl, you will ask during this meeting. The time to conduct this Taaruf is usually three months and you should decide together with the girl. Thus, this is where you will learn critical things about the girl.

If it happens that the set time is up and you still do not feel like there is compatibility, you have to stop the Taaruf. You are to do this after you have asked for permission from your parents. The girl also does the same. Also, in case your parents do not allow the Taaruf, you have to stop it.

Once you have passed all the steps that are required, you can now marry the girl you are interested in. You can now start to date after marriage. It is sweeter this way as you can do anything that you want. This is the recommended form of relationship in Islam.

These rules are set because they encourage people to keep their purity. When people start a romantic relationship before they get married, they can be engaged in fornication. This means that you will violate the rules of Allah as you will commit immorality. Courtship before marriage is a violation of Allah rules in Islam.
