An Uncontested Divorce In Georgia Causes Less Damage

By Marie White

The world today offers many advantages and opportunities, but it is also incredibly demanding. Everyone seems to be under tremendous pressure. Unfortunately, relationships and marriages often fall victim to these many pressures and that is one of the reasons why so many people opt for divorces. The rate of divorcing is so high that numerous lawyers make a good living from this branch of the legal field. However, with an uncontested divorce in Georgia it is possible to keep the costs down.

Contested divorces are often ugly and very bitter fights between two angry people that are willing to wash all their dirty laundry in open court. In these divorces the partners cannot agree on the terms of their separation and they each have to appoint an attorney to fight on their behalf. This can be prohibitively expensive, especially if the case is protracted and is kept on the court rolls for days on end.

Sensible couples handle their divorces in a more civilized manner. When they have already made a final decision to dissolve the marriage, there is no sense in spending a fortune on the process and in causing pain and bitterness for all concerned. They discuss the issues that need to be discussed and they reach agreement by being reasonable, by compromising and by communicating with each other.

Because a marriage is a legal bond it can only be dissolved through legal channels. There are many laws involved when a marriage is dissolved and even the most sensible couple may need some help to finalize the matter. If they hire a lawyer, they only need one that will guide them both through the process and present the final agreement to the court for endorsement. This is a much cheaper option.

The cost of hiring even one lawyer that does not even appear in court can be rather high. Very few couples are not aware of the fact that it is not a legal requirement to be represented by one or more lawyers when divorcing. Specially trained counselors can also guide the negotiation process and draw up the settlement agreement. Their services are much cheaper than that of a lawyer.

The less time a professional spends on any specific case, the lower the final bill will be. Divorcing couples can therefore save more money by limiting the time that they spend with their lawyer or counselor. This can be done by privately discussing matters and by reaching all necessary decisions without direct help from the professional. This will leave the lawyer with the final papers to be drawn up.

Couples that dissolve their marriages in an amicable manner not only save money. If there are children in the marriage, they often suffer severe trauma in contested cases. When they witness their parents discussing the matter in a mature, reasonable manner they do not suffer as much. Other family members and friends also deal with divorces much better when they are handled in a reasonable and civilized manner.

Divorces have become a fact of life and the nature of relationships has changed. It is sad when things fall apart but at least it is better if the divorcing couple do not hurt their families and friends in the process too. Contested cases can be spiteful and mean and nobody wins in the end.
