The Techniques Of Jungian Therapy

By Maria White

Everyone knows about Jung and Freud. Some people are put off by therapy and psychologists because of this. Skeptics often think that you will approach a therapist being asked to lie on a couch while they analyse your dreams. However, it is not like this anymore. Therapy has come a long way. Freud and Jungian therapy are two of the most popular methods.

In saying this, one doesn't always want to look out for tradition and popularity. You also want to know what is right for you. There has been a lot of debate between Jung and Freud. They are similar in their approach. Jung looked up to Freud for a lot of his life, but went his separate way after having a disagreement.

Sometimes, patients have to be referred to other therapists in conjunction with psychotherapy. A client may need to look into other ways of expressing themselves. Some people with personality disorders will need medications. There are people who can benefit from informal support which you will discover at group therapy.

Some people feel better talking to a group of people in a more informal setting. Sometimes, they feel that they don't get the real success rate talking to a professional psychologist because they have not been through the same ordeal in their lives. When they are in a group they can identify with the this more.

Of course, there are always pros and cons. As the patients works more closely with the therapist, they move into a sense of wholeness. They learn more about themselves. This period of self discovery is very important because it helps one with their strengths and weakness. It will help them lead a healthy lifestyle. They will be more in tune to their relationships.

The main concept of this form of therapy is to focus on the subconscious thoughts and feelings. There is always much going on in the subconscious which one needs to deal with. Not everyone is aware of this. Many people think that the past is in the past, but this is not really true. You may have had a traumatic upbringing and think this is in the past, but this is not really true.

These are things that you have to look into and talk to the psychologist about. It is not easy to be vulnerable like this. Sometimes, more memories will come to the surface during this time. This is obviously not easy to deal with. However, you will be working in baby steps. The fact that you have this support is also a huge help.

As you begin to become aware of the unconscious, you will also become more aware of yourself. You will learn to change unhealthy behaviours. You will also learn new behaviours. It can encourage you to make choices and decisions without feeling hesitant or apprehensive. You will begin to feel more confident with a greater sense of wholeness in your life. This is something to look forward to.
